Frequently Asked Questions

Beginning therapy often comes with questions. Here you’ll find information about getting started, what to expect, fees, and other practical details.

Getting started

How do I get started?

Getting started is simple. Reach out to schedule a free 15-minute consultation. This gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what brings you to therapy, answer your questions, and determine whether working together might be a good fit. If we decide to move forward, we can schedule an initial appointment.

The consultation is a brief conversation to help us determine whether my services are appropriate for your needs. You’re welcome to share what you’re hoping to address and ask questions about my approach. There’s no obligation to schedule an appointment afterward.

Our first session is an opportunity for me to learn more about you, your experiences, and what brings you to therapy. We’ll discuss your current concerns, relevant background, and what you hope to gain from our work together. You don’t need to prepare anything specific or have everything figured out before we meet.

About therapy

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

You don’t need to be in crisis or have a specific diagnosis to benefit from therapy. Some people seek support for anxiety, depression, ADHD, or relationship difficulties, while others want to better understand themselves or navigate important life transitions. Therapy can provide a space to explore these concerns and develop ways to move forward.

My approach integrates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic, and relational perspectives, combining thoughtful exploration with evidence-based, solution-focused strategies. Together, we’ll explore how your experiences, relationships, and patterns of thinking and behavior contribute to your current concerns, while developing practical ways to approach challenges differently. Therapy is collaborative and tailored to your individual needs and goals.

Many clients begin with weekly sessions to establish consistency and build momentum. Depending on your needs, goals, and progress, we may adjust the frequency over time. We’ll discuss a schedule that makes sense for you.

The length of therapy varies depending on your concerns, goals, and circumstances. Some people benefit from focused, shorter-term work, while others find longer-term therapy helpful for addressing more complex or longstanding patterns. We’ll regularly review your progress and discuss what continues to be useful.

Fees and insurance

What are your fees?

The fee for a 45-minute individual therapy session is $225. Payment arrangements will be reviewed before your first appointment so you can make an informed decision about beginning treatment.

Yes. I accept Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, and CareFirst through Headway.

Insurance coverage and out-of-pocket costs vary depending on your specific plan. I encourage you to verify your benefits before beginning treatment.

If you prefer to pay privately or use out-of-network benefits, we can discuss the available options during your consultation.

If you do not have insurance or are not using insurance to pay for services, you generally have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining the expected cost of your care under the federal No Surprises Act.

You can learn more at www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
